About Us

Robert West has always had a passion for fixing things, and that passion turned into a lifelong career in the automotive industry. Before opening West Service Center, he left high school and served as a diesel and Jeep mechanic in the U.S. Army, then spent five years at the Naval Air Station working on F-14 jet engines. Those experiences gave him the skills and work ethic that would shape his future business. 

In 1987, Robert started West Service Center in a rented small two-bay garage with a simple goal—provide honest, high-quality auto repair to the Chesapeake and Hampton Roads communities. Thanks to loyal customers and a dedicated team, the shop quickly outgrew its space. After expanding to a six-bay shop, which Robert thought he would never outgrow – he quickly did, and in 1999, Robert had the opportunity to purchase at the front of the Cavalier Industrial Park and within one year he had a 12-bay, 3000 sq ft repair facility built, where we are still located today. 

West Service Center has always been a family business. Robert’s wife, Debbie, joined full-time after retiring from a 31-year career with the Chesapeake Health Department. Their son Thomas serves as General Manager, keeping daily operations running smoothly. Their other son, David, previously managed the company’s IT systems but has since moved on in his IT career—though he’s still involved when necessary. 

Even after all these years, Robert still takes a hands-on approach, making sure every customer gets the honest service and quality work they deserve. Whether it’s under the hood or behind the scenes, he’s committed to keeping West Service Center a trusted name in the community.
